Donald A. Aussicker

December 3, 1941 - January 2, 2022

Aussicker, Donald A. Niskayuna – Donald A. Aussicker, 80, passed away on January 2, 2022, peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness. Born in Schenectady and raised in Colonie, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Agnes Thackery Aussicker. A graduate of Colonie Central High School, Donald began his career with Yager Pontiac as an auto mechanic and later proudly worked for 30+ years at BBL Construction Services as a construction superintendent. Some of the projects that Don oversaw included, Macy’s (Colonie), Skidmore College, Siena College, Bard College, Price Chopper (Clifton Park and Colonie), The Kaatskill Mountain Club (Hunter), The NY National Guard Headquarters, Corporate Woods and countless other buildings located throughout the region. Don placed great value in creating quality and beautiful buildings including his own home located on the cliffs of the Mohawk River (Rexford). Don’s home became the gathering place for many memorable family events including the annual Memorial Day celebration. Donald appreciated the peace that water and nature brought. He was happiest surrounded by his family in his home, with his boat nearby. Donald loved baseball and was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball and coaching his son’s teams starting with the “peanut league” right up through American Legion. Don was one of the first coaches within the Watervliet Women’s Softball League where he led “George’s Streakers” to multiple championship seasons. He was also a proud member of the Watervliet High School Dad’s Club. From a young age, Don had a love of cars and enjoyed collecting and showing cars with his brother, Dick including their classic T-buckets. Donald is survived by his children, Mark (Denise) Aussicker of Long Valley, NJ and Debbie (Cliff) Hyde of Latham; his siblings, Richard (Joyce) Aussicker of Cohoes, Sandra Miller of Schenectady and Paul (Jackie) Aussicker of Newtown, PA; and his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Jordan, Jennifer and John Aussicker and Emily and Mackenzie Hyde; as well as many nieces and nephews. A special “thank you” to the caring staff at The Terrace at Glen Eddy, St. Peter’s Hospital and The Gateway House of Peace for all of their kindness and support. A visitation will be held on Thursday 4-7 pm at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carmen Rd., Schenectady followed by interment at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
