Dorothy H. (Sullivan) Komoroske
June 16, 1926 - March 17, 2022
Glenville- Dorothy H. (Sullivan) Komoroske, 95, stayed true to her Irish roots by passing on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2022 at Shaker Place Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born in 1926 in Saratoga Springs to William Sullivan and the former Jeanette Robinson Sullivan. She attended Catholic Central H.S. in Troy, NY and later began working for the NY Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She met her future husband, Harold, at a dance “across a crowded room” and their lifelong song became “Some Enchanted Evening”. Married in June of 1950, Dorothy and Harold welcomed a daughter two years later. In 1955, the young family transferred to Idaho Falls, Idaho. There, Harold’s work with GE resulted in the community of Arco becoming the world’s first nuclear-powered city. A few years after returning to their home in Scotia, a son was born. Dorothy continued her work as a telephone operator at GE and later at KAPL. Upon retirement, she and Harold traveled to their beloved western states, as well as taking several trips to Cape Cod, Florida, Hawaii and neighboring states. In later life, they were blessed with grandsons whom they adored and enjoyed. They attended countless sporting events, musical concerts and various other activities. Shortly after losing her husband in 1997, Dorothy went to work at the Scotia-Glenville Senior Citizens Center, volunteering at the main desk as a receptionist for 17 years, again using her telephone skills. In 2005, Dorothy became “Gigi” to the first of three great-grandsons. In 2016, she was extremely honored to be recognized as a candidate for “Schenectady County Senior Citizen of the Year”. When living in her home of 64 years became a bit much for Dorothy, though it was hard for her to leave her wonderful neighbors, she moved down the road to Judson Meadows where she resided for 4 ½ years. While there, she enjoyed many activities, visits, phone calls and cards from family and friends while under the watchful eye of the tremendous staff. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Harold, as well as by her brothers, William Sullivan Jr. and Thomas Sullivan, her son-in-law, Frederick Tiscione and nephew, William Komoroske. Dorothy leaves behind her daughter, Deborah (Fred) Spezza and son, David (Caroline) Komoroske; grandsons, Matthew (Milena) Tiscione, Marcus (Kayla Cowell) Tiscione and Joshua (Luba) Komoroske; great-grandsons, Matteo and Lorenzo Tiscione and James Komoroske; step-grandchildren, Kris (Maddie Gurga) Spezza and Cadi (Craig) Clermont; step-great-grandchildren, Logan Butterfield, Justina Spezza, Alessio and Nico Clermont; her sister-in-law, Ethel Komoroske as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Scotia-Glenville Senior Citizens Inc., Attn: Vicki Hillis, 32 Worden Rd., Glenville, NY 12302. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 25 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 231 Second St., Scotia from 10 am to 11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2150 Central Ave., Schenectady. Arrangements entrusted to The White Funeral Home.
