Jane Rae Cottrell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Scotia- Jane Rae Cottrell, 89 of Scotia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Dorthea (Relyea) Trudell. A lifelong area resident, Jane attended local schools, graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School, Class of 1950. On March 9, 1952, Jane married the love of her life, James R. Cottrell. They enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. The couple resided in Scotia and together raised their family. Jane was a devoted and active member of the Burnt Hills Baptist Church, serving in many official and unofficial capacities. In her free time, Jane enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, making countless beautiful creations over the years. A warm and selfless person, Jane’s home was always open to friends and family alike, and there was always an extra place at the dinner table for an unexpected visitor. In addition to her parents and her husband James, Jane was predeceased by her son Mark A. Cottrell; brother, Wayne Trudell and sister Nancy (Trudell) Poupard. Survivors include her children, Dorothea J Coleman (William) of Ann Arbor, MI, James Cottrell Jr. (Harriet Otis) of Nutting Lake, MA, David W. Cottrell and his husband Josh, who mom wholeheartedly accepted into her life, of Scotia; 5 grandchildren, Pamela, Andrew, Holly, Samantha and Michelle; and 4 great-grandchildren, Keiara, Ilyana, Crystal and Jezilyn. She is also survived by Karen (Frank) Palmer, who she always considered to be another daughter, and her children, Christopher, Scott and Bryan. The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, July 23 from 1-2pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm at Burnt Hills Baptist Church, 193 Kingsley Rd, Burnt Hills, NY 12027. Interment will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Monday, July 25 at 2pm.
