Paul Thomas Harig

March 14, 1925 - February 12, 2021

Paul Thomas Harig Mar. 14. 1925-Feb. 12, 2021 Queensbury – Paul Thomas Harig, 95, of Queensbury, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Friday, February 12, 2021 following a brief illness. Born on March 14, 1925 in Lackawanna, NY he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Emma (Goeckel) Harig. After high school, at 17, Paul enlisted in the US Navy. As an Electrician’s Mate First Class during WW2, he served aboard the rocket gunboat USS LCl-454 for most of his four years of service. He saw combat in the Pacific during the Marshall, Mariana, and Palau Island campaigns. Upon his honorable discharge he continued to serve, teaching electronics at the Naval Reserve station in Auburn, NY. Paul began his 38 year career with the New York Telephone Company as a lineman in Auburn. His many promotions included the positions of Engineer in Auburn, Senior Staff Engineer at NY Tel headquarters in New York City, and District Engineer, Construction Supervisor, and Manager of Outside Plant Design in the Glens Falls and northeastern NY area. He retired in 1985. A lifelong stamp collector, Paul spent many enjoyable years as a dealer buying and selling picture postcards and postal history items. He was a member of local stamp clubs in Auburn and Glens Falls. Paul met Agnes Marie Carmody during his Navy years while on liberty in Auburn. They were married in 1946, raising nine children, first in Auburn for 21 years, then in Queensbury. Agnes passed away in 1988 after a wonderful union of forty-two years. In 1989 Paul met and married Joyce G. Philo of South Glens Falls. They both enjoyed bowling for many years with the Moreau Seniors, boating on Hadlock Pond, and international travel that included many land tours and cruises to Europe, the Caribbean, and Australia. In addition to his first wife Agnes, Paul was predeceased by his parents, an infant son James, and son William. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Joyce; his children, Dr. Paul Harig, Jr. (Nancy) of Carlisle, PA, Dr. Thomas Harig (Jo Ann) of Queensbury, Joseph Harig (Joan) of Milton, VT, Michael Harig, Esq. of Baton Rouge, LA, Patrick Harig of Clifton Park, Marianne Cox (John) of South Glens Falls, Susan Heath Washington of Jacksonville, FL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Rd. Queensbury, NY 12804. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Open Door Mission, 226 Warren St. Glens Falls, NY 12801. To express online condolences visit www.sbfuneralhome.com.
