Thomas Howard LaMarque Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Thomas Howard La Marque, age 83, of Moreau, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2022, while surrounded by his family. Tom was born in Ticonderoga on April 21, 1939, son of the late Anna and Francis La Marque, being one of their 11 children. He is now reunited with his parents and all of his siblings. He married Lorna Hopkins on June 28, 1963, and raised four children in Glens Falls. Tom and Lorna enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. Throughout their married life, they enjoyed camping, from tents at the beginning to their most recent motorhome. They traveled extensively on their own, with their children, and with multiple camping clubs, hitting every state in the contiguous US. In 1988 they traveled to Germany and, during that tour, also visited Belgium, Holland, Austria, and a tiny bit of Italy. They made lifelong friends through these travels and experiences. Besides camping, Tom loved golfing, walking, hiking, and canoeing. He had a passion for trains and enjoyed sharing his elaborate electric train sets with his grandchildren. As a young man, Tom was an avid motorcycle rider. Tom loved ice cream and made a point of visiting local ice cream shops regardless of where he was. One of his favorite stories to tell is about visiting an ice cream shop in Indiana on a rainy day. He sat there all day and ate multiple bowls of ice cream. Eventually, the owner sat with him and picked up the check. Tom was very proud of his military service as a Private First Class. He served in Europe, being honorably discharged on January 16, 1960. He received a Good Conduct medal while serving. Tom worked for Finch Pruyn Paper Mill for 30 years until his retirement. In addition, he had a successful private bookkeeping and tax service for 40 years. Throughout that time, he served up to 1,800 clients who all knew him as the Tax Man. Tom is survived by his wife, Lorna (Hopkins), daughters Gina (Adam), Veronica (Mike), Karen (Annie and Pugsley); his son Thomas (Heather); granddaughter Nichole (John); grandsons Achur, Adam (Carla), Alex, Jacob (Casey), Nicholas, Eric (Brittany), Colby (Sabina), Bryce, and Owen; great-grandchildren Adam, Maya, Charlotte, Aislinn, and Jack; as well as several nieces and nephews. Per his request, there will be no services, and burial with military honors will be held at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetary at a later date.
