The White Funeral Home Rotterdam- Virginia “Ginny” May Kaufmann, 100 years old, of 3 Chapel Street, Rotterdam, NY died peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022. Virginia was delivered into this world by her paternal grandfather, John, on July 4, 1921 in Easton, NY. She was the daughter of Michael and Julia Cukrovany of Mechanicville, NY. She married the late Theodore F. Kaufmann, a lifelong resident of Schenectady. They were married in Lake George, NY and spent 61 years together. Ginny was an unassuming woman who was devoted to her children and loved them unconditionally. She created a beautiful life for her family and taught them by her example to be caring, supportive and generous. She graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, NY in 1939. Her love of reading led her to attend classes at Union College and Schenectady Community College. During World War II she worked at General Electric assembling components. Virginia volunteered as a library assistant at Grout Park School for many years before being hired as a para professional library assistant. She was loved and respected by her coworkers and the children. She worked for over 40 years until she was 85. Her many interests included theater and dining and camping with daughter Gail, baking an amazing lemon meringue pie for son Ted, dancing disco with son Tom and vacationing on Cape Cod with daughter Holly. Ginny's hands were always busy sewing costumes, embroidering pillowcases, crocheting blankets and preparing delicious meals at any time for everyone who showed up in the kitchen in the little brick house. When she was 65 she decided to become a belly dancer, made some wonderful costumes and participated in volunteer performances in the area. Her love of children inspired her to be a Sunday School teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church, Schenectady and at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Scotia, NY. She was also a member of the Ladies Home Bureau of Rotterdam, the Carman Ladies Auxiliary and the Carman Fire Belles bowling team. Survivors include her four children, Theodore Kaufmann, Jr and his wife Carolyn of Lanesboro, MA, Gail Bassi of Schenectady, NY and former husband Guy Bassi, Holly Hawthorn of Redding, CT, and Thomas Kaufmann and his wife Jane of Esperance, NY. Her grandchildren, Deborah McCarthy and her husband Theodore of Londonderry, NH, Melissa Morin and her fiancé, JD of Lanesboro, MA, Michael A. Bassi and his wife Melissa of Glenville, NY, Diana Messer of Waynesville, NC. Virginia has seven great-grandchildren, Kimberly, James, Katelyn, Alexander, Grant, Michael T., Audriana and one great-great grandchild, Mabel. She is predeceased her husband, Theodore F. Kaufmann and by three brothers: John (Helena) Cukrovany, Raymond (Geneva) Cukrovany, Bernard (Flora) Cukrovany, all of Schaghticoke, NY, her brother-law Edward (Jean) Kaufmann, of Glenville and her great-granddaughter Isabella Bassi, of Glenville. Services will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 103 South Reynolds St., Scotia, NY on Wednesday, May 4. Viewing hours 10-11 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will be on Thursday, May 5 at 11:30 am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY where she will join Ted and they can continue to argue forever.
